Principal Designer
Are you aware of your duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015)?
Our Principal Designer services help clients fulfil their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), ensuring health and safety is effectively managed throughout the pre-construction phase of a project.
We can support clients by acting as Principal Designer and/or Client CDM Advisor, working closely with clients, consultants and contractors to coordinate health and safety responsibilities and support compliance across all stages of the construction process.
In both of these roles, we assist clients with their duties relating to all health and safety aspects of a project. As Principal Designers, we help plan, manage, monitor and coordinate safety during the pre-construction phase, ensuring the design team carries out its duties in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
We regularly undertake the Principal Designer role across education, residential, commercial, heritage, infrastructure and community projects, particularly where the welfare of those within the vicinity of the works is at increased risk and an absolute priority.
Under CDM 2015, the Principal Designer is responsible for planning, managing and coordinating health and safety during the pre-construction phase of a project.
This includes identifying foreseeable risks, coordinating the design team and ensuring health and safety considerations are integrated throughout the design and planning process.
Effective Principal Designer involvement helps reduce risk during construction, occupation, maintenance and future use of a building or asset.
Excellent communication between all stakeholders is essential to ensure everyone involved in a project fulfils their health and safety responsibilities throughout the lifecycle of the scheme, whether acting as designers, contractors or consultants.
Acting on behalf of our clients, we help ensure all parties involved in the project are suitably competent to carry out their duties and understand their responsibilities under CDM Regulations.
Our team works proactively to support safe project delivery through careful coordination, review, monitoring and engagement.
We can notify the Health and Safety Executive, review construction phase plans and other health and safety documentation, prepare and maintain Health and Safety Files and promote a behavioural approach to safety through site visits, risk assessment and method statement management.

- Overseeing the design process and integrating health and safety considerations at every stage
